Terrane Metals Corp.: Mt. Milligan Gets EA Approval From Government of Canada

-- Posted Wednesday, 2 December 2009 | Digg This ArticleDigg It! | | Source: GoldSeek.com

Vancouver, British Columbia: Robert Pease, President and CEO of Terrane Metals Corp. ("Terrane" or the "Company") (TRX: TSX-V), is pleased to announce that the Company has successfully concluded the federal Environmental Assessment (“EA”) process for its Mt. Milligan copper-gold Project (the “Project”) located 150 km northwest of Prince George, British Columbia. The federal Minister of the Environment’s EA decision enables the federal responsible authorities to issue their respective permits for the commercial development of the Project. The balance of the permits required to start construction are expected in Q1 2010.

President and CEO Robert Pease stated: "We are very pleased to have received EA approval from the Government of Canada. This approval, together with the British Columbia EA Certificate received in March 2009, clearly demonstrates that the Project will meet or exceed both federal and provincial standards for environmental protection. We look forward to having the opportunity to build BC’s next major metal mine.”

All regulatory applications and approvals are based on the March 2008 Feasibility Study which contemplated a 15-year mine life. If required, the Company will seek appropriate regulatory amendments for the additional mine life. Pending receipt of the balance of permits and subject to financing, construction is scheduled to commence in Q2 2010 with commercial production in Q4 2012.

Mt. Milligan will be a conventional truck-shovel open pit mine with a 60,000 tpd copper flotation process plant. A 2009 Feasibility Update Study forecast average annual production of 262,100 oz gold and 89 million lb copper for the first six years of a 22-year mine life.  The Project will provide about 400 direct permanent jobs and significant long-term economic benefits for the region.
