Ben Stein’s Movie
By: Larry LaBorde

Last Friday night the lovely Miss Puddy accompanied me on our usual Friday night outing to the movies. Even though we were out of town we managed to make our weekly trip to the cinema. We chose Ben Stein’s new movie, “Expelled”. In it Mr. Stein talks of the politically correct sanitizing of the “Intelligent Design” theory over Darwinism.

When Do I Sell My Silver?
By: Larry LaBorde, Silver Trading Company

People are always asking me, “When should I sell my silver?” Well that question is much easier to ask than to answer. I often times tell them whenever the government starts acting responsibly and not only balances the budget but finally decides that it has grown too fat and announces they are going on a fiscal diet.

Fair Rate of Return?
By: Larry LaBorde

I have just finished my year end evaluation and the old portfolio looks pretty good. A 21% return over the last two years and a 15% return over the last 6 years. But then I had to ask myself, “What is a fair rate of return in this market”?

It’s Time to Go Fishing

Even though the bulk of my writing has been on monetary history (sometimes pretty dull stuff), I occasionally dabble in political writing (even worse). I have even been accused of being unpatriotic at times concerning my writing about the South. Let me attempt to set the record straight.

The Unholy Alliance
By: Larry LaBorde

Earlier this month in Nashua, New Hampshire, congressman Ron Paul said that, “1913 was a bad year. We need to repeal that entire year.” The crowd cheered him. Well what exactly happened in 1913? Two very important events took place in the United States that year. The first was in February when the 16th amendment was declared passed and income tax began. (see thelawthatneverwas.com) The second event occurred in December of that same year when congress authorized another Federal Bank in the form of the Federal Reserve Bank.

The Kingfish
By: Larry LaBorde

Huey sounds crazy at first but when you adjust his plan for inflation it is not as bad as it first seemed. After all $1,000,000 doesn’t buy what it used to. Why is that do you suppose? Does anyone think the dollar is not going to depreciate even faster in the coming decades? Get smart and get out of federal reserve notes.
