Get ready for next month. I always find myself approaching October with a little trepidation. As soon as all those 3rd quarter earnings (or lack thereof) start coming in we could be in for quite a shock. It just seems that surprises of the worst kind show up in the stock market in Octobers past (especially the most recent one).

HUI, Gold BUGS Index

The HUI Gold BUGS Index stands for the AMEX Basket of Unhedged Gold Stocks index. The symbol of the index is HUI. There are 15 stocks in the index as listed below. All of the stocks have either completely unhedged gold production or not more than 1.5 years of gold production hedged. The market caps of these miners range from ¼ billion to 27 billion USD.

Pirates

The press has spent endless hours debating on how to deal with pirates lately. It is obvious that they do not respect our private property rights and want to make a living from plundering others. It should be obvious that we can not allow them to keep their plunder that was obtained through treachery. Piracy is simply thievery of other people’s private property because opportunity favors the pirates at the moment.
