Anarchists are bad guys?
By: Larry LaBorde

The lovely Miss Puddy accompanied me to the latest Sherlock Holmes movie last night. In the movie a series of bombings supposedly by anarchist was terrorizing Europe. This begs the question, what is an anarchist? Webster defines anarchy as: a. absence of government, b. state of lawlessness due to absence of government or c. utopian society who enjoy complete freedom without government.

China
By: Christopher and Larry LaBorde

Last week the LaBorde family was down in South Louisiana at the New Orleans Investment Conference. After attending a presentation on China by the very passionate Dr. Stephen Leeb, author of Red Alert: How China's Growing Prosperity Threatens the American Way of Life; it became more apparent that China is becoming an economic super predator. His explanation of the current situation seemed comparable to a boxing match.

The French Revolution (here we go again)
By: Larry LaBorde

How long will we suffer inflation (and then hyperinflation) until we agree to cede political power to anyone who will fix the problem by emasculating the bankers and re-establishing a gold standard for the people? Who will we willingly surrender the republic to in exchange for a promise to end the banker’s fractional reserve currency chaos? Rest assured that the bankers will not go quietly into the night. Power is never surrendered without a fight. When it comes to greed and power I am reminded of King Solomon who said there is nothing new under the sun, human nature never changes. A fight of epic proportions is coming. As Marc Faber says, “opt out of the fractional reserve system, buy gold and become your own central banker”.

The Haves and the Have-Nots
By: Larry LaBorde

Once again the lovely Miss Puddy and I headed out of the country for another adventure. Last month we visited the Dominican Republic. For those of you who are not quite sure where it is located, the DR is on the eastern half of the island of Hispaniola. (Hati is on the western half of the same island.)

Waiting for a Hero
By: Larry LaBorde

The lovely Miss Puddy accompanied me to the movies a few weeks ago for a viewing of “Unstoppable” with Denzel Washington. In the movie Washington, a 30-year veteran locomotive engineer saves the day by not listening to the bureaucracy and trusting his instinct honed by years on the job. It is the story of a simple journeyman veteran who knows his trade well from 30 years on the job who saves the day.

Investing For the Next 5 years
By: Larry LaBorde

Many people are uncertain in just exactly how to invest in these troubled economic times. Private capital seems to be fleeing the stock market as it not only seems to have gone nowhere this last decade but has even lost ground when considering the steady erosion effects of inflation as it devalues our dollars. Even though we may hold the same about of dollars in our accounts at the end of the decade as when we crossed over into the year 2000 those dollars have shrunk quite a bit when considering their purchasing power.

Banking In the Coming Decade
By: Larry LaBorde

Banking in the United States is undergoing a change. Out of over 8,000 banks in this country the top 4 (Morgan-Chase, Citi, Bank of American and Wells Fargo) control 55% of all banking assets. The top 100 banks control over 75%. The FDIC’s watch list of troubled banks is now over 700 and growing every quarter. If the big four had to mark all their assets to market it is doubtful they would survive as viable banks.

What’s An Investor To Do?
By: Larry LaBorde

During my trip to France to visit with associates this past weekend I heard many opinions on investments. They centered on select investments in the emerging world, deep value investments in the first world, very long term investments in the first world and the preservation of wealth for later.

Grandmother Knew What to Watch
By: Larry LaBorde

In this age of overwhelming data at our very fingertips we are sometimes slow to recognize the threat due to data overload. The Federal BLS produces reams of data that are calculated in a fashion that would make an embezzler blush. In order to clear our minds a bit I direct your attention to the following graph of National Totals of State General Sales Tax Revenues.

Fight Back
By: Larry LaBorde

If you are tired of the Wall Street bankster bailout program at taxpayers expense but feel helpless to do anything about it then keep reading. If record profits for the big six banks (and big bonuses for the executives there) that took your tax dollars makes you wonder exactly who is in charge then read on. If you get upset about the Goldman Sachs executive retirement plan (become US Treasury Sec and cash out lifetime personal portfolio tax free AND help out your old pals on Wall Street) for Wall Street banksters then get ready to fight back.

Red October
By: Larry LaBorde

Get ready for next month. I always find myself approaching October with a little trepidation. As soon as all those 3rd quarter earnings (or lack thereof) start coming in we could be in for quite a shock. It just seems that surprises of the worst kind show up in the stock market in Octobers past (especially the most recent one).

Pirates
By: Larry LaBorde

The press has spent endless hours debating on how to deal with pirates lately. It is obvious that they do not respect our private property rights and want to make a living from plundering others. It should be obvious that we can not allow them to keep their plunder that was obtained through treachery. Piracy is simply thievery of other people’s private property because opportunity favors the pirates at the moment.

Rig for Storm
By: Larry LaBorde, Silver Trading Company

We will now see if Milton and Anna were correct. We will see if the economy is a simple machine where the mandarins can spin a few dials and pull a few levers and everything will be just rosy in a quarter or two. After all it worked in Japan – didn’t it?

‘Bama Knows Best
By: Larry LaBorde, Silver Trading Company

I find myself in the unusual position of agreeing with Vlad Putin and disagreeing with our current president. There is just something wrong when my economic views are aligned with a former communist and against the head of the free world.
