The Metals:
Gold fell almost 2% to $1166.53 in early Asian trade before it climbed back to see a loss of just $3.18 at $1184.82 in London and then dropped to $1170.50 in midmorning New York trade ahead of a rally back to $1187.30 by about noon EST to see a loss of just 70 cents, but it then fell back off in afternoon trade and ended with a loss of 1.03%. Silver climbed to $17.80 and fell to $17.40 in midmorning New York trade before it rallied to a noontime high of $17.868, but it also fell back off into the close and ended with a loss of 0.56%.
Euro gold fell to about €936, platinum lost $2.50 to $1503, and copper rose over 11 cents to abut $3.05.
Gold and silver equities waffled on either side of unchanged for most of the day and ended with slight gains.
The Economy:
There were no major economic reports today. All of this week’s economic reports:
Next week’s economic highlights include Existing Home Sales on Monday, the Case-Shiller 20-city Index, Consumer Confidence, and the FHFA Housing Price Index on Tuesday, Durable Goods Orders and New Home Sales on Wednesday, Initial Jobless Claims and GDP on Thursday, and Personal Income and Spending, Chicago PMI, and Michigan Sentiment on Friday.

Oil fell on worries over slow economic growth and poor energy demand.
The U.S. dollar index fell after the euro continued its rebound from Tuesday’s four-year low on hopes that the worst of Europe’s problems are over with.
Treasuries cut into early gains as the Dow, Nasdaq, and S&P turned notable early loses into decent gains by the close on easing worries over Europe.
Among the big names making news in the market Friday were Abbot, Lehman Brothers, and Goldman Sachs.
