The Metals:
Gold climbed almost $10 in London and rose to as high as $1241.20 by about 10:30AM EST before it fell back off a bit in late trade, but it still ended with a gain of 0.7%. Silver rose throughout most of the day and ended near its late session high of $19.02 with a gain of 3.05%.
Euro gold rose to about €980, platinum gained $9.50 to $1521.50, and copper fell a few cents to about $3.21.
Gold and silver equities rose throughout trade and ended with as much as 3% gains.

Oil reversed early losses and ended higher after the Energy Information Administration reported that crude inventories rose 4.1 million barrels, gasoline inventories rose 2.3 million barrels, and distillates rose 1.8 million barrels.
The U.S. dollar index traded mostly slightly higher on speculation that Japan will take some kind of action to drop the yen from recent 15 year highs.
Treasuries rose on more poor economic data that sent the Dow, Nasdaq, and S&P lower in early trade, but bonds then turned lower as stocks rose midday and ended with slight gains on hopes that the fed’s actions will be able to stimulate the economy.
Among the big names making news in the market today were Toll Brothers, BHP, Goldman Sachs, AIG, Sanofi-Aventis, American Airlines, HP, Dell, 3Par, and Morgan Stanley.
