The Metals:
Gold traded within a tight range of $1233.10 to $1238.18 and ended with a gain of 0.08%. Silver climbed to as high as $19.19 and fell to as low as $18.91 before it bounced back higher and ended unchanged on the day.
Euro gold climbed to over €976, platinum lost $3.50 to $1525.25, and copper gained another 5 cents to about $3.41.
Gold and silver equities waffled near unchanged and ended with slight losses.

Oil fell while the U.S. dollar index and treasuries rose on continued worries over the economy that sent the Dow, Nasdaq, and S&P about 1% lower on the day.
Among the big names making news in the market today were 3M and Cogent, HP, BP, Intel, Genzyme, and RIM.
