The Metals:
Gold saw a slight gain at $1282.17 in London, but it then fell back off for most of the rest of trade and ended with a loss of 0.53%. Silver rose to as high as $20.83 and fell to as low as $20.485 before it rebounded a bit in New York, but it still ended with a loss of 0.82%. Both metals have risen sharply in after hours trade in reaction to the fed’s statement.
Euro gold fell to about €969, platinum lost $15.50 to $1608, and copper dropped to about $3.47.
Gold and silver equities fell over 2% by early afternoon, but they then jumped back to unchanged following the fed’s announcement and ended with slight gains.

The FOMC announced no change to their interest rate policy as expected. They expect inflation to remain subdued for some time and pledged to keep rates low for an extended period. While they didn’t quite announce a new round of quantitative easing, they hinted at it pretty strongly and will likely announce a clear program at their next meeting. Read the full Fed statement

Oil fell on the fed’s grim economic outlook.
The U.S. dollar index fell and treasuries rose on the fed’s move towards even more accommodation.
The Dow, Nasdaq, and S&P closed near unchanged as some were hoping that the fed would announce another round of quantitative easing starting today.
Among the big names making news in the market today were Atlas Air and Clorox.
