The Metals:
Gold rose $6.14 to $1419.04 in Asia before it fell to see a $8.25 loss at $1404.65 in London, but it then rose to a new session high of $1422.65 by midday in New York and ended with a gain of 0.57%. Silver climbed to $35.36 in Asia and fell to $34.04 in London before it also rallied back higher in New York and ended near its late session high of $35.99 with a gain of 1.93%.
Euro gold climbed to about €1024, platinum gained $16.75 to $1777.75, and copper rose slightly to about $4.21.
Gold and silver equities rose about 2% by midday and remained near that level for the rest of the day.

Oil fell on concerns over falling energy demand after Japan was struck by an earthquake and tsunami.
The U.S. dollar index fell as the yen rose on repatriation and safe-haven flows.
Treasuries fell as the Dow, Nasdaq, and S&P found decent gains on relief over lower oil prices.
