BULLHEAD CITY — The Moss Mine, near Bullhead City, is fully permitted and ready to begin operating with more than 100 people this fall, said Joe Bardswich, Golden Vertex general manager and Northern Vertex director.
Northern Vertex Corporation is the parent company of Golden Vertex, Moss Mine’s owner. Both gold and silver will be extracted from the mine. Bardswich said those 100-plus people will be working at the mine within a month, in preparation for full operations.
They can plan on five years of work, with another five years when Golden Vertex begins mining federal land, he said.
As part of the company’s “optimization plan,” it will be converting from diesel generators to utility power from Mohave Electric Cooperative, putting up nine miles of power lines to the mine site at its own expense.
“We’re going to save a lot of money, in the order of $2 million to $3 million a year,” Bardswich said. It will also benefit the environment, he said.
It will take six months to put up the lines, but Golden Vertex must first get permission from the federal Bureau of Land Management and Bardswich said he isn’t certain how long that will take.
Golden Vertex will also widen the Moss Mine Access Road, off Silver Creek Road. The access road is only one lane wide in places and very dangerous, Bardswich said.
Both Silver Creek Road and the access road will be smoothed out with aggregate from the mine, he said.
Improvements will be made at the mine site, with portable toilets being replaced with plumbing, Bardswich said.
He was complimentary toward Bullhead City and Mohave County officials.
“It’s pleasant working in this city and this county. People are cooperative,” Bardswich said. “I’m not used to that, where you can get an answer the same day” and set up meetings at a moment’s notice.
