The Metals:
Gold waffled near unchanged in Asia before it rallied to as high as $1618.00 in London, but it then fell back to as low as $1609.18 in afternoon New York trade and ended with a gain of just 0.02%. Silver slipped to $27.75 in Asia before it rallied up to $28.21 in London and then also fell back off a bit in New York, but it still ended with a gain of 0.68%.
Euro gold remained at about €1300, platinum gained $7 to $1406.50, and copper gained 5 cents to about $3.44.
Gold and silver equities rose over 1% by early afternoon and remained near that level for the rest of the day.

Oil rose and the U.S. dollar index traded mostly slightly lower as talk of more action from the ECB sent the euro higher.
Treasuries fell as the Dow, Nasdaq, and S&P rose on optimism about Europe. Today’s $32 billion three-year note auction sold at a high yield of 0.37% with a bid to cover of 3.51.
Among the big names making news in the market today were Chesapeake, MetLife, MGM, CVS, Knight Capital, and Standard Chartered.
