The Metals:
Gold climbed up to $1663.83 at about 9AM EST before it fell back to $1651.91 by late morning in New York, but it then bounced back higher into the close and ended with a loss of just 0.05%. Silver climbed to as high as $30.90 before it fell back to $30.215 and then also bounced back higher, but it still ended with a loss of 1.04%.
Euro gold climbed to over €1323, platinum lost $7.75 to $1503.75, and copper remained at about $3.44.
Gold and silver equities traded mostly slightly lower and ended with almost 1% losses.

Oil fell as the U.S. dollar index and treasuries rose on worries over various world economies that sent the Dow, Nasdaq, and S&P lower.
“German unemployment increased for a fifth month, retail sales in Japan fell more than estimated and South Korean manufacturers’ confidence stayed near the lowest level since 2009. U.S. reports showed consumer spending rose less than forecast and inflation slowed as investors awaited Fed Chairman Ben S. Bernanke’s speech tomorrow in Wyoming.”
Among the big names making news in the market today were Amazon, Barclays, Gap, Macy’s, Carlyle, Validus and Flagstone, Hewlett-Packard, and Samsung.
