The Metals:
Gold dropped down to $1752.61 in Asia before it climbed up to $1773.00 by a little after 10AM EST and then pared its gains a bit in midday action, but it then bumped back higher in late trade and ended with a gain of 0.74%. Silver surged to as high as $35.015 before it also fell back off, but it still ended with a gain of 2.23%.
Euro gold rose to about €1358, platinum lost $33.30 to $1625.50, and copper climbed a couple of cents to about $3.80.
Gold and silver equities traded mostly slightly higher and ended with modest gains.

Oil fell and the U.S. dollar index rose as the euro dropped on uncertainty about Spain and worries about a poor reading on German investor sentiment.
Treasuries rose as the Dow, Nasdaq, and S&P traded mostly slightly lower on concerns about Europe.
Among the big names making news in the market today were FedEx, Lenovo, and Apple.
