The Metals:
Gold climbed up to $1774.75 by a little after 8AM EST before it fell back to almost unchanged by midmorning in New York, but it then bounced back higher midday and ended with a gain of 0.26%. Silver rose to as high as $34.33 before it also fell back off and ended with a loss of 0.12%.
Euro gold remained at about €1367, platinum gained $10.50 to $1678.50, and copper climbed 4 cents to about $3.76.
Gold and silver equities rose a little over 1% about an hour into trade before they fell back off in afternoon trade, but they still ended with slight gains on the day.

Oil remained higher after the Energy Information Administration reported that crude inventories rose 1.7 million barrels, gasoline inventories fell 500,000 barrels, and distillates fell 3.2 million barrels.
The U.S. dollar index fell on decent economic data that sent the Dow, Nasdaq, and S&P higher in early trade, but the major indices then fell back off in early afternoon trade and ended near unchanged on an unfavorable court ruling for Apple.
Treasuries reversed higher after today’s $13 billion 30-year note auction sold at a high yield of 2.904% with a bid to cover of 2.49.
Among the big names making news in the market today were Apple, Softbank, JPMorgan, and Realogy.
