The Markets:
Charts Courtesy of http://finance.yahoo.com/
Oil ended barely lower as the U.S. dollar index edged higher on better than expected economic data that sent the Dow, Nasdaq, and S&P higher.
“Treasuries traded in the tightest range in two weeks as the Federal Reserve bought $5 billion of Treasuries maturing from October 2018 and August 2020 in an effort to reduce borrowing costs and counter recession risks.
U.S. debt had declined for the first time in five days as a report showed retail sales exceeded forecasts, adding to signs the economy is recovering and damping demand for the safety of government debt. Benchmark 10-year note yields fell earlier after Bank of Israel Governor Stanley Fischer said the world is “awfully close” to a recession, as he backed the Fed’s increase in bond purchases.”
Among the big names making news in the market today were Microsoft, Charles Schwab, Advent, Bristol-Myers, Softbank, and Citigroup.
