The Metals:

 

Gold edged up to $1730.08 in early Asian trade, but it then fell to as low as $1703.93 in afternoon New York trade and ended with a loss of 1.25%.  Silver slipped to as low as $31.55 and ended with a loss of 2.35%.

 

Euro gold fell to about €1315, platinum lost $39.40 to $1567.20, and copper dropped 4 cents to about $3.58.

 

Gold and silver equities fell almost 3% at the open and remained near that level for the rest of the day.

Tomorrow at 10AM EST brings New Home Sales for September expected at 385,000 and the FHFA Housing Price Index for August.  At 2:15PM is a FOMC Rate Decision.

Oil fell as the U.S. dollar index and treasuries rose on poor earnings reports that sent the Dow, Nasdaq, and S&P about 1% lower.

 

Among the big names making news in the market today were Yahoo, Assurant, BofA, RBC, UPS, Target, and DuPont.
