The Metals:
Gold climbed up to $1665.66 in Asia before it fell back off in London and New York, but it still ended with a gain of 0.21%. Silver rose to as high as $30.36 in Asia, but it then fell to as low as $29.806 in early afternoon New York trade and ended with a loss of 0.3%.
Euro gold rose to about €1258, platinum lost $8.50 to $1529, and copper fell a couple of cents to about $3.53.
Gold and silver equities waffled near unchanged and ended slightly higher.
The Economy:
There were no major economic reports today. US markets are closed tomorrow for Christmas.

Oil fell as the U.S. dollar index rose after Japan’s incoming prime minister said the country must defend itself as other nations attempt to devalue their currencies.
The Dow, Nasdaq, and S&P fell on worries about the fiscal cliff.
Among the big names making news in the market today were Microsoft, Herbalife, and RIM.
