The Metals:
Gold climbed to as high as $1678.83 by about 10:30AM EST and ended with a gain of 0.94%. Silver surged to as high as $30.926 and ended with a gain of 1.45%.
Euro gold fell to about €1262, platinum jumped $ to $1626.50, and copper climbed 4 cents to about $3.71.
Gold and silver equities rose about 2.5% in the first half hour of trade and remained near that level for the rest of the day.

Tomorrow at 8:30AM EST brings Import and Export Prices for December and the Trade Balance for November expected at -$41.8 billion. At 2PM is the Treasury Budget for December expected at -$1.0 billion.

Oil rose and the U.S. dollar index fell markedly as the euro jumped higher after the ECB held rates unchanged and gave no hints of possible cuts in the future.
Treasuries remained lower after today’s $13 billion 30-year note auction sold at a yield of 3.07% with a bid to cover of 2.77.
The Dow, Nasdaq, and S&P fell back near unchanged in late morning trade as strong data out of China was offset by mixed earnings and economic reports in the US, but stocks then rallied back higher in afternoon trade and ended with decent gains.
Among the big names making news in the market today were Tiffany, Morgan Stanley, Cerberus, Toyota, Amtrak, and Ford.
