The Metals:
Gold climbed $5.86 to $1684.76 in Asia before it fell back to $1673.59 at about 8AM EST, but it then rallied back higher in New York and ended with a gain of 0.06%. Silver rose to $31.46 in Asia before it fell back to $31.07 in London, but it then climbed to as high as $31.551 in New York and ended with a gain of 0.25%.
Euro gold rose to about €1265, platinum gained $5.47 to $1683.67, and copper fell a few cents to about $3.62.
Gold and silver equities traded about 1% lower for most of the morning before they rallied back higher in afternoon trade, but they still ended with modest losses on the day.

The fed's Beige Book said that: “The U.S. economy picked up across much of the country last month, boosted by auto and home sales, even as the outlook for unemployment showed few signs of improvement.”
Tomorrow brings Initial Jobless Claims, Housing Starts, Building Permits, and the Philadelphia Fed.

Oil jumped higher after the Energy Information Administration reported that crude inventories surprisingly fell 1 million barrels, gasoline inventories rose 1.9 million barrels, and distillates rose 1.7 million barrels.
The U.S. dollar index ended slightly higher as the euro fell after some poor economic data in Europe.
Treasuries advanced for a fourth day as the Dow, Nasdaq, and S&P traded mixed on varied earnings reports.
Among the big names making news in the market today were Facebook, Boeing, Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley, Legg Mason, and JPMorgan.
