The Metals:
Gold climbed $8.30 to $1695.20 by a little before 9AM EST, but it then chopped back lower for most of the rest of trade and ended near its late session low of $1683.63 with a loss of 0.17%. Silver surged to as high as $32.111 before it also fell back off, but it still ended with a gain of 0.47%.
Euro gold rose to about €1264, platinum lost $25.50 to $1663, and copper climbed a couple of cents to about $3.68.
Gold and silver equities waffled near unchanged and ended mixed.

Oil ended slightly higher on signs of stronger than expected demand out of China.
The U.S. dollar index rose as the yen fell ahead of next week’s monetary policy action from the Bank of Japan.
Treasuries rose as the Dow, Nasdaq, and S&P traded mixed on varied earnings reports.
Among the big names making news in the market Friday were GE, Morgan Stanley, Clearwire, and Intel.
