The Metals:
Gold climbed $6.78 to $1649.78 in London before it fell back to as low as $1632.82 by early afternoon in New York, but it then bounced back higher in the last couple of hours of trade and ended with a loss of just 0.45%. Silver edged up to $31.06 at about 8AM EST before it fell to as low as $30.22 and then also rallied back higher, but it still ended with a loss of 1.04%.
Euro gold climbed to over €1224, platinum lost $11.50 to $1706, and copper remained at about $3.72.
Gold and silver equities climbed over 1% higher in the first hour of trade before they fell back off a bit, but they still ended with modest gains on the day.

Oil found slight gains on worries about Iran after United Nations nuclear inspectors failed to reach an agreement that would allow access to alleged atomic facilities.
The U.S. dollar index and treasuries rose as the euro fell on poor economic data out of Germany that sent the Dow, Nasdaq, and S&P lower at the open, but better than expected jobs data and various deal news in the US brought stocks back near unchanged by midmorning and the major indices ended mixed on the day.
Among the big names making news in the market today were Merck, AMC Network, Berkshire, 3G Capital, Heinz, US Airways, AMR, Constellation Brands, GM, and PepsiCo.
