The Metals:
Gold fell all of the way to $1598.59 by late morning in New York before it bounced back higher midday, but it still ended with a loss of 1.63%. Silver slid to as low as $29.681 and ended with a loss of 2.13%.
Euro gold fell to about €1204, platinum lost $30 to $1676, and copper edged up to $3.74.
Gold and silver equities fell over 3% in the first hour of trade and remained near that level for the rest of the day.

Oil dropped on concerns about weak fuel demand.
The U.S. dollar index found slight gains as the yen fell after a Group of 20 official said the latest draft of the nations’ statement doesn’t echo the Group of Seven view that exchange rates shouldn’t be a target of policy.
Treasuries fell on decent economic data that sent the Dow, Nasdaq, and S&P modestly higher at times, but stocks then fell back off in the last couple of hours of trade and ended mixed on news that Wal-Mart’s sales dropped sharply at the start of the year.
Among the big names making news in the market Friday were Wal-Mart, SAC, Herbalife, Zynga, Electronic Arts, and Under Armour.
