The Metals:
Gold climbed up to $1586.04 at about 8:30AM EST before it fell back to $1571.75 over the next five hours, but it then bounced back higher in afternoon trade and ended with a gain of 0.08%. Silver surged to as high as $29.065 before it fell back to $28.513, but it still ended with a gain of 0.42%.
Euro gold fell to about €1208, platinum gained $22.25 to $1585.50, and copper rose a couple of cents to about $3.52.
Gold and silver equities saw about 1% gains at the open, but then then drifted back lower for most of the rest of trade and ended with modest losses.

Oil rose as the U.S. dollar index and treasuries fell on economic optimism that sent the Dow, Nasdaq, and S&P about 1% higher.
Among the big names making news in the market today were Macy’s, ISDA, Citigroup, HSBC, Qualcomm, and J.C. Penney.
