The Metals:
Gold bumped up to $1294.74 in early Asian trade before it fell back to $1274.08 at about 8:30AM EST, but it then bounced back higher after this morning’s economic data and ended with a gain of 0.04%. Silver slipped to as low as $19.564 before it also bounced back higher and ended with a gain of 0.35%.
Euro gold remained at about €983, platinum gained $12.50 to $1419.50, and copper fell slightly to about $3.15.
Gold and silver equities waffled near unchanged and ended with modest losses.

Oil rose on decent economic data from the US and China that showed some signs of strength, but also enough signs of weakness to warrant further stimulus from the fed.
The U.S. dollar index found slight gains as the yen fell on speculation that the fed will reduce monetary stimulus before the Bank of Japan eases its bond-buying program.
Treasuries rose on this morning’s disappointing retail sales report.
The Dow, Nasdaq, and S&P ended modestly higher on decent earnings reports.
Among the big names making news in the market today were Tiffany, Verizon, Microsoft, Goldman Sachs, and Citigroup.
