The Metals:
Gold climbed $5.35 to $1315.95 in early Asian trade before it fell back to $1308.50 at about 3:30AM EST, but it then climbed to as high as $1328.30 in New York and ended with a gain of 0.9%. Silver surged to as high as $22.447 and ended with a gain of 3%.
Euro gold rose to over €974, platinum gained $11.50 to $1399.50, and copper remained at about $3.30.
Gold and silver equities rose almost 2% in the first 20 minutes of trade and remained near that level for the rest of the day.

Oil fell along with the U.S. dollar index and treasuries climbed higher on worries about the ongoing government shutdown and the upcoming debt ceiling battle that sent the Dow, Nasdaq, and S&P lower.
Among the big names making news in the market today were Airbus, Lockheed, United Technologies, J.G. Wentworth, Twitter, and Ford.
