The Metals:
Gold fell $21.14 to $1251.56 by a little after 7AM EST before it rebounded to $1277.08 in early New York trade and then fell back to $1267.20 by late morning, but it then climbed to a new session high of $1287.92 in the next few hours of trade and ended with a gain of 0.68%. Silver slipped to as low as $20.494 at one point, but it then rose to as high as $21.50 and ended with a gain of 0.33%.
Euro gold rose to €947, platinum gained $7.50 to $1383.50, and copper remained at about $3.30.
Gold and silver equities waffled near unchanged for most of the morning, but they then climbed to see roughly 3% gains by midafternoon and remained near that level for the rest of the day.

Oil fell and the U.S. dollar index pared early gains as lawmakers appear to have made little progress towards arriving at a deal to raise the debt ceiling before Thursday’s deadline.
Treasuries fell along with the Dow, Nasdaq, and S&P on uncertainty about budget talks.
Among the big names making news in the market today were Citigroup, BlackBerry, Johnson & Johnson, Charles Schwab, Coca-Cola, and FedEx.
