The Metals:
Gold climbed $6.11 to $1287.41 in Asia before it fell to $1269.41 at about 11AM EST, but it then rallied back higher midday and ended with a loss of just 0.14%. Silver slipped to as low as $21.113 at about 9AM, but it then rose to as high as $21.418 in early afternoon trade and ended with a loss of just 0.28%.
Euro gold fell to about €946, platinum gained $9.80 to $1393.30, and copper climbed a penny to about $3.31.
Gold and silver equities fell almost 2% in the first 45 minutes of trade before they rallied back to about unchanged by early afternoon, but they then fell back off again in the last couple of hours of trade and ended with about 1.5% losses.

The U.S. dollar index ended unchanged in mixed trade.
Oil rose along with treasuries and the Dow, Nasdaq, and S&P on assurances from lawmakers that a deal will be reached to raise the debt ceiling.
Among the big names making news in the market today were PepsiCo, Bank of America, CME Group, BlackRock, JPMorgan, and Abbott.
