The Metals:
Gold fell $5.30 to $1346.20 in late Asian trade before it climbed to as high as $1361.68 at about 11AM EST and then fell back to $1351.50 in the next few hours of trade, but it still ended with a gain of 0.11%. Silver slipped to $22.34 in early Asian trade before it rose to as high as $22.69 at about 5AM, but it then fell back off into the close and ended with a loss of 0.22%.
Euro gold climbed above €982, platinum gained $13.25 to $1466.25, and copper remained at about $3.27.
Gold and silver equities rose about 2% by late morning before they fell back off midday, but they still ended with about 1% gains.

Oil climbed higher on news of falling production in Libya.
The U.S. dollar index saw slight gains as the yen fell after the Bank of Japan indicated it will continue its bond buying program.
Treasuries remained modestly lower after today’s $32 billion 2-year note auction sold at a yield of 0.323% with a bid to cover of 3.32.
The Dow, Nasdaq, and S&P waffled near unchanged in quiet trade.
Among the big names making news in the market today were AMC Networks, Merck, and Toyota.
