The Metals:
Gold fell to $1241.19 in London before it rallied back to $1248.97 in morning New York trade, but it then fell back off into the close and ended unchanged on the day. Silver slipped to as low as $19.827 in the last hour of trade and ended with a loss of 0.6%.
Euro gold fell to about €918, platinum lost $8 to $1382, and copper climbed a few cents to about $3.22.
Gold and silver equities saw slight gains for most of the morning, but they then fell back off in afternoon trade and ended with about 1% losses.

Oil waffled near unchanged and ended modestly lower on uncertainty about a deal with Iran.
The U.S. dollar index fell as the euro rose after a stronger than expected reading of German business confidence.
Treasuries pared some of this week’s losses while the Dow, Nasdaq, and S&P traded mostly slightly higher in quiet trade.
Among the big names making news in the market Friday were Ann Taylor, Comcast, Herbalife, and Intel.
