The Metals:
Gold gained $7.17 to as high as $1245.17 in holiday thinned trade yesterday before it fell back to $1241.04 in Asia today, but it then climbed to a new high of $1254.79 in late morning New York trade and ended with a gain of 1.07% from Wednesday’s close. Silver surged to as high as $20.087 and ended with a gain of 1.58%.
Euro gold rose to almost €921, platinum gained $14.50 to $1363.50, and copper climbed a few cents to about $3.23.
Gold and silver equities rose over 2% in the first hour of trade and remained near that level for the rest of the day.

Next week’s economic highlights include the ISM Index and Construction Spending on Monday, ADP Employment, the Trade Balance, New Home Sales, ISM Services, and the fed’s Beige Book on Wednesday, Initial Jobless Claims, GDP, and Factory Orders on Thursday, and November’s jobs data, Personal Income and Spending, Core PCE Prices, Michigan Sentiment, and Consumer Credit on Friday.

Oil rose as the U.S. dollar index held most of yesterday’s losses in quiet trade.
Treasuries waffled near unchanged as the Dow, Nasdaq, and S&P erased most of the days earlier gains on profit taking in the last minutes of trade.
Among the big names making news in the market Friday were ADM, Morgan Stanley, and Wal-Mart.
