The Metals:
Gold fell $9.82 to $1227.78 by a little after 4AM EST before it climbed to as high as $1251.67 in late morning New York trade, but it then drifted back lower in afternoon trade and ended with a gain of just 0.25%. Silver slipped to $19.465 before it jumped to as high as $20.296 and then also fell back off, but it still ended with a gain of 1.32%.
Euro gold rose to over €901, platinum lost $1 to $1359.00, and copper climbed a few cents to about $3.35.
Gold and silver equities rose about 1% by midmorning and remained near that level for the rest of the day.

Oil rose on worries about the closure of Libyan oil ports.
The U.S. dollar index fell as the euro climbed higher after a better than expected PMI reading for the 17-nation euro bloc.
Treasuries waffled near unchanged as traders positioned themselves ahead of this week’s fed meeting.
The Dow, Nasdaq, and S&P jumped higher on positive M&A news and thoughts that the fed may delay its tapering of bond purchases into next year.
Among the big names making news in the market today were Honda, Amazon, Avago, Microsoft, Bank of America, and AIG.
