The Metals:

 

Gold jumped up to $1215.44 at about 9:30AM EST before it drifted back lower into the close, but it still ended with a gain of 0.51%.  Silver surged to as high as $20.033 and ended with a gain of 1.33%.

 

Euro gold rose to about €884, platinum gained $24 to $1355, and copper climbed a couple of cents to about $3.42.

 

Gold and silver equities saw about 2% gains about a half hour into trade before they fell back to unchanged by midday, but they then edged back higher in the last couple of hours of trade and ended with modest gains.

Oil ended slightly higher as the U.S. dollar index edged lower in quiet holiday trade.

 

Treasuries fell as the Dow, Nasdaq, and S&P climbed higher on better than expected jobs data and weakness in the yen.
