The Metals:
Gold fell $10.53 to $1221.77 at about 4:40AM EST before it rebounded to $1231.91 in the next two and half hours of trade and then fell to a new session low of $1218.83 after the release of today’s fed minutes, but it then bounced back higher in the last couple of hours of trade and ended with a loss of just 0.6%. Silver slipped to as low as $19.332 and ended with a loss of 1.56%.
Euro gold fell to about €902, platinum rose $4 to $1414, and copper fell slightly to about $3.35.
Gold and silver equities fell about 2% in the first fifteen minutes of trade before they bounced back higher at times, but they still ended with over 1% losses.

Minutes from the fed’s December 18th meeting showed that:
“Federal Reserve officials agreed in December to start to wind down their asset-purchase program as most believed that the benefits of the controversial policy were eroding over time.”
Tomorrow at 8:30AM EST brings Initial Jobless Claims for 1/04 expected at 338,000.

Oil fell after the Energy Information Administration reported that crude inventories fell 2.68 million barrels, gasoline inventories rose 6.24 million barrels, and distillates rose 5.83 million barrels.
The U.S. dollar index rose on better than expected jobs data that sent treasuries lower.
The Dow, Nasdaq, and S&P traded mixed on concerns that strong economic data will encourage the fed to further taper its stimulus measures.
Among the big names making news in the market today were JC Penney, Microsoft, WellPoint, Monsanto, and Forest Labs.
