The Metals:
Gold fell $9 to $1234.40 at about 9:30AM EST before it bounced back higher in late morning New York trade and then edged back lower in early afternoon trade, but it then rallied back higher in the last 100 minutes of trade and ended with a loss of just 0.23%. Silver slipped to as low as $19.949 at one point, but it then rallied back to as high as $20.21 and ended with a loss of just 0.2%.
Euro gold rose to about €912, platinum remained at $1424, and copper climbed a couple of cents to about $3.35.
Gold and silver equities fell over 1% at the open, but they then rose to see about 1% gains by midmorning and remained near that level for the rest of the day.

U.S. mortgage applications jump in latest week -MBA Reuters
The fed’s Beige Book “said “moderate” growth across most of the country last month was buoyed by gains in holiday spending by consumers, an improving labor market and strength in manufacturing.”
Tomorrow brings Initial Jobless Claims, CPI, Net Long-Term TIC Flows, the Philadelphia Fed, and the NAHB Housing Market Index.

Oil jumped higher after the Energy Information Administration reported that crude inventories fell 7.7 million barrels, gasoline inventories rose 6.2 million barrels, and distillates fell 1.0 million barrels.
The U.S. dollar index rose on strong economic data that sent treasuries lower and the Dow, Nasdaq, and S&P higher.
Among the big names making news in the market today were JPMorgan, Wells Fargo, Marvell, GM, Bank of America, and Deutsche Bank.
