The Metals:
Gold climbed $30.15 to as high as $1354.75 by late morning in New York before it fell back off a bit in afternoon trade, but it still ended with a gain of 2.02%. Silver surged to as high as $21.696 and ended with a gain of 1.23%.
Euro gold rose to about €984, platinum gained $13 to $1455, and copper fell a couple of cents to about $3.17.
Gold and silver equities rose over 3% by midmorning before they dropped back off into the close, but they still ended almost 2% higher on the day.

Oil jumped higher on worries about Russia and Ukraine that also sent the U.S. dollar index and treasuries higher.

The Dow, Nasdaq, and S&P fell on concerns about how far this conflict could escalate.
Among the big names making news in the market today were Nissan, Chrysler, Citigroup, GM, and Cantor.
