Gold fell $11.92 to $1282.98 at about 8:20AM EST before it bounced back to $1291.21 in the next 45 minutes of trade, but it then chopped back lower midday and ended with a loss of 0.38%. Silver slipped to as low as $19.297 and ended with a loss of 1.07%.
Euro gold fell to about €935, platinum lost $11.15 to $1396.85, and copper fell slightly to about $3.04.
Gold and silver equities fell over 1% by early afternoon, but they then rallied back higher in the last few hours of trade and ended with only modest losses.

Oil ended slightly higher in mixed trade.
The U.S. dollar index rose as the yen fell after Japan’s trade deficit widened more than expected.
Treasuries ended modestly lower as the Dow, Nasdaq, and S&P traded mostly higher on optimism over earnings season.
Among the big names making news in the market today were Halliburton, Mt. Gox, Nokia and Microsoft, and Pfizer and AstraZeneca.
