The Metals:
Gold climbed $12.03 to $1305.13 at about 8:30AM EST, but it then fell back off for most of the rest of trade and ended near its last minute low of $1292.59 with a gain of just 0.04%. Silver slipped to as low as $19.338 and ended with a gain of just 0.15%.
Euro gold remained at about €944, platinum gained $4 to $1465, and copper climbed a couple of cents to about $3.16.
Gold and silver equities waffled near unchanged and ended with slight gains.
The Economy:
Fischer, Brainard to push for more activist Fed Reuters
There were no major economic reports today, and there are none due out tomorrow.

Oil found decent gains on geopolitical concerns and expectations for supply declines in this week’s inventory report.
The U.S. dollar index fell on dovish fed-speak.
Treasuries saw slight losses as the Dow, Nasdaq, and S&P traded mostly higher on deal-making talk.
Among the big names making news in the market today were GlaxoSmithKline, AstraZeneca and Pfizer, Blackstone, and AT&T and DirecTV.
