The Metals:
Gold edged down to $1307.96 in early Asian trade before it jumped up to $1318.17 at about 8AM EST and then fell back to $1310.44 by late morning in New York, but it then bounced back higher in afternoon trade and ended with a gain of 0.18%. Silver rose to as high as $21.105 and ended with a gain of 0.43%.
Euro gold rose to about €970, platinum gained $27 to $1485, and copper climbed a penny to about $3.20.
Gold and silver equities fell over 1% by midday, but they then edged back higher in the last couple of hours of trade and ended with only modest losses.
The Economy:
There were no major economic reports today. Tomorrow brings CPI, the FHFA Housing Price Index, and Existing Home Sales.

Oil rose, the U.S. dollar index saw modest gains, and treasuries traded notably higher as the Dow, Nasdaq, and S&P fell on geopolitical concerns, but stocks did erase most of their significant early losses by the close.
Among the big names making news in the market today were CBS outdoor and Van Wagner, Tiffany, Barclays, Samsung, Yum, McDonalds, Halliburton, and Severstal.
