The Metals:
Gold saw slight gains in Asia before it fell back to $1293.89 by late morning in New York, but it then bounced back higher in afternoon trade and ended with a loss of just 0.23%. Silver slipped to as low as $19.388 and ended with a loss of 0.97%.
Euro gold rose to about €973, platinum lost $5.50 to $1434, and copper fell a couple of cents to about $3.10.
Gold and silver equities fell over 1% by late morning before they bounced back higher in early afternoon trade, but they still ended with modest losses on the day.

Oil fell as the U.S. dollar rose on better than expected housing data that sent treasuries lower and the Dow, Nasdaq, and S&P higher.
Among the big names making news in the market today were Microsoft, PetSmart BHP, Home Depot, Verizon, and Sprint.
