Gold dropped $15.06 to $1226.44 at about 11AM EST before it climbed back higher in afternoon trade, but it still ended with a loss of 0.69%. Silver slipped to $17.067 in London, but it then chopped back higher in New York and ended with a gain of 0.41%.
Euro gold fell to about €974, platinum lost $9 to $1253, and copper climbed a couple of cents to about $3.03.
Gold and silver equities fell over 1% by midmorning before they rose to see over 1% gains shortly after 3PM EST and then fell back off into the close, but they still ended with modest gains.

Oil rose 2% on reports that Saudi Arabia cut output in September.
The U.S. dollar edged up and treasuries fell as the Dow, Nasdaq, and S&P rose over 1% on earnings reports and stronger than expected economic data around the world.
Among the big names making news in the market today were Sears, Caterpillar, United, Janus, GM, 3M, Comcast, and Chiquita.
