The Metals:
Gold climbed $29.19 to $1234.19 by late morning in New York before chopped back lower at times, but it still ended with a gain of 2.04%. Silver surged to as high as $17.205 and ended with a gain of 4.03%.
Euro gold rose to about €994, platinum gained $13 to $1244, and copper climbed 4 cents to about $2.94.
Gold and silver equities rose about 5% in the first half hour of trade and remained near that level for the rest of the day.

Oil rose on indications that recently weak prices are influencing companies to reduce exploration and production efforts.
The U.S. dollar fell as the yen rose on worries about global economic growth that sent treasuries higher and the Dow, Nasdaq, and S&P mostly lower.
Among the big names making news in the market today were Hyundai, Bank of America, Abercrombie & Fitch, Tesla, and Amazon.
