The Metals:
Gold waffled between $1201.06 and $1194.31 in Asia and held near unchanged in London before it drifted back lower in New York, but it ended with a loss of just 0.26%. Silver slipped to $15.844 in London, but it the rose to as high as $16.099 in New York and ended with a gain of 0.82%.
Euro gold rose to about €977, platinum lost $2 to $1195, and copper climbed 3 cents to about $2.89.
Gold and silver equities slipped lower in afternoon trade and ended with about 1% losses.

Next week’s economic highlights include Existing Home Sales on Monday, Durable Goods Orders, GDP, the FHFA Housing Price Index, Michigan Sentiment, Personal Income and Spending, Core PCE Prices, and New Home Sales on Tuesday, and Initial Jobless Claims on Wednesday.

Oil bounced back from 5-year lows on short covering.
The U.S. dollar index rose on the view that the fed may raise interest rates before the ECB or Bank of Japan.
Treasuries edged higher as the Dow, Nasdaq, and S&P held near unchanged in relatively quiet trade.
Among the big names making news in the market Friday were Meredith Whitney, MetLife, Petrobras, and Blackberry.
