The Metals:
Gold climbed almost 1% to $1182.48 in Asia, but it then fell back off in London and New York and ended with a gain of just 0.15%. Silver spiked up to $15.889 at about 8:15 AM EST before it also fell back off, but it still ended with a gain of 0.32%.
Euro gold rose to about €965, platinum gained $13 to $1189, and copper remained at about $2.88.
Gold and silver equities rose about 3% by midday, but they then fell back off into the close and ended with about 1% losses.

Oil rose along with the U.S. dollar on better than expected economic data.
Treasuries extended lower after today’s 5-year note auction sold at yield of 1.739% with a bid to cover of 2.39.
The Dow and S&P rose on optimism about the economy while the Nasdaq dipped on profit taking.
Among the big names making news in the market today were Sony, Hertz, and Keurig.
