The Metals:
Gold climbed $12.14 to $1223.24 in Asia, but it then fell back off in London and New York and ended with a loss of 0.46%. Silver slipped to as low as $16.36 and ended with a loss of 1.21%.
Euro gold fell to about €1078, platinum remained at $1185, and copper climbed to about $2.70.
Gold and silver equities drifted lower for most of trade and ended with about 2.5% losses.

Oil ended modestly lower on reports that Libya’s oil production is rising.
The U.S. dollar ended slightly higher in mixed trade and treasuries fell despite this morning’s worse than expected economic data as many believe the fed is getting closer to raising interest rates anyway.
The Dow, Nasdaq, and S&P rose on apparent relief that today’s economic data was not even worse than reported.
Among the big names making news in the market today were HSBC, HP, Warren Buffett, and NXP.
