Gold edged up to $1209.07 in Asia, but it then dropped to as low as $1198.43 in New York and ended with a loss of 0.32%. Silver slipped to as low as $16.10 and ended with a loss of 0.49%.
Euro gold rose to about €1083, platinum lost $5 to $1178, and copper remained at about $2.66.
Gold and silver equities fell almost 2% in the first 40 minutes of trade and remained near that level for the rest of the day.
