The Metals:
Gold climbed $12.50 to $1166.50 in Asia before it fell back to $1148.62 by early afternoon in New York and then bounced back higher into the close, but it still ended with a loss of 0.06%. Silver rose to as high as $15.716 before it also fell back off, but it still ended with a gain of 0.45%.
Euro gold fell to about €1086, platinum lost $2 to $1113, and copper climbed 5 cents to about $2.66.
Gold and silver equities waffled near unchanged and ended with modest losses.

Oil fell on the continued outlook for ample supplies.
The U.S. dollar dropped on poor economic data as the euro rebounded from yesterday’s 12-year low.
Treasuries turned slightly lower after today’s $13 billion 30 year note auction sold at a yield of 2.681% with a bid to cover of just 2.18.
The Dow, Nasdaq, and S&P rose about 1% on hopes that today’s poor economic data will influence the fed to hold off on raising interest rates.
Among the big names making news in the market today were Dollar General, Intel, Alibaba, and Lumber Liquidator.
