The Metals:
Gold jumped $23.86 to $1219.46 by a little after 4AM EST before it fell back to off in London and New York, but it still ended with a gain of 0.65%. Silver surged to as high as $17.395 and ended with a gain of 0.47%.
Euro gold rose to about €1105, platinum gained $7 to $1149, and copper climbed a couple of cents to about $2.81.
Gold and silver equities rose nearly 3% at the open, but they then fell back off for most of the rest of trade and ended with almost 2% losses.

Oil rose another 4.5% on news that Saudi Arabia and its Gulf Arab allies began air strikes in Yemen.
The U.S. dollar ended decently higher in mixed trade as the yen and Swiss franc rose on safe haven buying.
Treasuries extended lower after today’s $29 billion 7-year note auction sold at yield 1.792% with bid to cover of just 2.32, which is the lowest since May 2009. This follows yesterday’s weak demand for the Treasury's $35 billion sale of five-year notes.
The Dow, Nasdaq, and S&P traded mostly slightly lower on worries about earnings, valuations, and interest rates.
Among the big names making news in the market today were Lululemon, SanDisk, Winnebago, Scholastic, American Apparel, and RadioShack.
