The Metals:
Gold climbed $22.87 to $1224.17 by late morning in New York before it edged back lower in afternoon trade, but it still ended with a gain of 1.2%. Silver surged to as high as $17.293 and ended with a gain of 1.55%.
Euro gold rose to about €1111, platinum gained $25 to $1175, and copper fell a couple of cents to about $2.71.
Gold and silver equities rose about 4% at the open and remained near that level for the rest of the day.

Oil closed over 6% higher on the view that Iran’s nuclear deal will not immediately result in a jump in oil exports from the region.
The U.S. dollar fell on last Friday’s weak jobs data that delayed expectations for an interest rate hike by the fed.
The Dow, Nasdaq, and S&P saw decent losses at the open, but they then climbed back higher for most of the rest of the day and ended with nice gains on relief over likely having low rates for longer.
Among the big names making news in the market today were Twitter, YouTube, Mizuho, and Virtu.
