Gold saw slight gains in Asia and London before it jumped up to $1207.08 by early afternoon in New York and then edged back lower into the close, but it still ended with a gain of 2.02%.Silver soared to as high as $16.484 and ended with a gain of 4.2%.
Euro gold rose to about €1104, platinum gained $26 to $1146, and copper climbed a few cents to about $2.77.
Gold and silver equities rose roughly 4% by early afternoon before they pared back a bit, but they still ended with about 2% gains.
Oil traded mixed while the U.S. dollar fell ahead of this Wednesday’s FOMC Rate Decision.
Treasuries turned slightly higher after today’s $26 billion 2-year note auction sold at a yield of 0.54% with a bid to cover of 3.30.
The Dow, Nasdaq, and S&P saw slight gains for most of the morning before they fell back off in afternoon trade, but they ended with just modest losses on the day.
Among the big names making news in the market today were Deutsche Bank, Mylan, Cap Gemini, and Chipotle.
