Gold gained $6.29 to $1104.99 by about 4AM EST before it fell back to $1089.36 in the next four and a half hours of trade and then bounced back above unchanged by about 10AM EST, but it then drifted lower again into the close and ended with a loss of 0.43%. Silver slipped to as low as $14.545 and ended with a loss of 0.88%.
Euro gold fell to about €986, platinum lost $2 to $980, and copper fell a few cents to about $2.35.
Gold and silver equities rose about 2% a half hour into trade, but they then fell to see as much as 5% losses by late afternoon and ended roughly 4% lower on the day.
