Gold gained $7.05 to $1096.35 in Asia before it dropped down to $1083.59 just after this morning’s jobs report was released, but it then rose to a new session high of $1099.52 in the next two and a half hours of trade and ended with a gain of 0.26%.Silver rose to as high as $15.022 and ended with a gain of 0.82%.
Euro gold remained at about €997, platinum gained $11 to $958, and coper fell a couple of cents to about $2.33.
Gold and silver equities rose about 3% in the first 25 minutes of trade, but they fell back off in the last couple of hours of the day and ended near unchanged.
Next week’s economic highlights include Productivity, Unit Labor Costs, and Wholesale Inventories on Tuesday, the Treasury Budget on Wednesday, Initial Jobless Claims, Retail Sales, Import and Export Prices, and Business Inventories on Thursday, and PPI, Industrial Production, Capacity Utilization, and Michigan Sentiment on Friday.
The U.S. dollar index initially jumped higher after this morning’s jobs report was released, but then fell back off in late morning trade and ended with a loss ahead of the weekend.
Treasuries rose as the Dow, Nasdaq, and S&P dropped on worries about interest rate policy.
Among the big names making news in the market Friday were Apple, Arch Coal, Delta, Pimco, and Bitcoin.
