Gold gained $7.50 to $1122.70 in early New York trade before it chopped back towards unchanged for most of the rest of trade, but it still ended with a gain of 0.22%. Silver rose to as high as $15.41 and ended with a gain of 0.66%.
Euro gold rose to about €1009, platinum gained $7 to $995, and copper fell a few cents to about $2.32.
Gold and silver equities rose about 3% in the first half hour of trade before they pared their gains into midafternoon, but they then rallied back higher in the last hour of trade and ended about 4% higher.

Oil fell in the last half hour of trade and ended about 1.5% lower on continued worries about a global supply glut.
The U.S. dollar rose on decent housing data while treasuries saw decent gains on poor manufacturing data.
The Dow, Nasdaq, and S&P traded mostly higher on mixed economic reports.
Among the big names making news in the market today were IBM, Apple, QVC, Brookfield Infrastructure, and Citigroup.
